Any man who may be asked in this century
what he did to make his life worthwhile, I
think can respond with a good deal of
pride and satisfaction:  " I served in the
United States Navy"

Some Thoughts about Politics and
Shipmate's Reunions...
There are some things we all should be mindful of as the next shipmates reunion approaches in 2010
Leading up to and ever since the first Farragut Shipmates reunion in 2002, many individuals have put a great
deal of effort, money and time into making what is now the Farragut Ship's Association the success it is today.
Finding shipmates, or making it easier for them to find the information they need to reunite with friends they have
not seen for decades is not an easy undertaking.  But with every new contact comes the reward of knowing that
friendships are being renewed and restored.  To lose some of these over open political disagreements, or the
potential for the same, is disheartening.
That is why we are asking everyone to leave their politics at home when they come to Groton in 2010.  To assume
that everyone will agree with your political ideology is naive.  To ignore the feelings of others is totally
irresponsible and could lead to open disagreements and broken friendships, and probably ruin the
reunion for many attendees.
The Farragut Ships Association was founded for all shipmates who want to meet and remember the old days.  It
was never meant to provide a venue to promote politics or religion, etc.
Do yourself and everyone else a favor and leave your politics at home in 2010 and everyone will have a much more
enjoyable reunion.
